What are the best settings to conserve battery life? I want to set the camera to record for several days and I am not using the Wifi option.

My camera been recording for over 4 months now and we haven’t changed the battery, still has 69% battery life left,

Does the wifi need to be connected to your home wifi? My phone won't sync to its wifi because it keeps telling me the wifi signal is too weak.

No it has nothing to do with home wifi. It just links to your phone. I would call it more like Bluetooth rather than wifi

Can I trigger the camera from my phone to take a picture or video?

Yes, as long as you are in close proximity to the camera

So i’m confused, is this bluetooth enabled can i use the at&t network out in the field or do i actually have to be using my wi-fi router from my house

It does not need an existing WIFI network. The Unit itself generates its own "hotspot" to connect to your phone wirelessly - functions similar to connecting via bluetooth, but uses WIFI instead to be able to download photos faster.

Theoretically yes you could extend the wifi, get a wifi extender unit, setup wifi with same wifi info as from camera. Connect wifi unit to camera then connect phone to wifi. Extended! Basic Setup info and it’s not for someone who doesn’t know what they are doing. Do your research first before just attempting.
