I purchased this metal detector to help find a lost wedding ring. We believed it to be in a backyard or driveway and had scoured the area multiple times with no luck.We got this Garrett ACE 250 from Amazon with Same-Day shipping as our last resort. It took about 3 minutes to put together, including reading the instructions.
Controls to adjust sensitivity, discrimination, and elimination were all rather simple to use, as was the pinpoint function.
We took it out and used it for about an hour, learning as we went and narrowing settings. I then went over an area that we had searched many times before and got a strong hit. I moved away the leaves and scratched away some dirt where the detector had pinpointed. There it was: just a glimmer but I had found my ring. It had fallen off my hand and been stepped on enough that it was pressed down into the soil.
First time out and the detector paid for itself 2.5 times over.
Highly recommend this unit. I will say that I have no experience with other units, but as a novice this detector was easy to use and got the job done.

10 year old boy loves this, he assembled it himself. We have another similar one the 10 year old girl owns, now that he has one, he is very happy. Adjustable to the length needed from arm reach to ground, so nothing too long or short, pole adjusts. It is not overly heavy, has a little weight, but not enough to strain out a child. This one didn't have the added wrist stabilization weight feature, that would rest on arm to balance out, just a straight out handle pole from the reader. It has a little rope you can hang up after use.

We tested this out during a backyard renovation. It found pipes, staples, nails and decades old lost items. Missing hair clips, some old beading wire, a paperclip, parts of metal objects we don't recognize and some metallic stones.
So far, it accurately predicts how far down an object is and what it might be.
It hasn't died, but we only used it for an hour or so each day.
I paired it with a magnetic pole to pick up anything near the surface. I don't know why one isn't included with the detector. It seems like a logical combination.
Bottom line: Would I order again? I might. Would I gift it? Yes. It's a fun distraction and helpful during remodeling. I hate losing nails and staples.

You won’t be using it on Oak Island, but it’s a lot of fun to take out on a hike or family trip to the beach! I’m 5’5”, and feel that I can use this easily. Registers metals as different ones on the screen, which is really exciting! Coil is sensitive and quick to react the closer something is to it, which I only mention because I’m not sure how accurate the depth measure is. It’s not super easy to understand. So, as a rule of thumb, the louder the sound, the closer the metal is. On the downside, it’s difficult to collapse into the very basic carrying case. Really glad to have it!

Picked this up so my 6yr. old son could join me when I go metal detecting on the beach. This metal detector fit the bill prefect. He loved it right out of the box. It's nice and light weight for him and was adjusted to the perfect height for him. The pictures on the screen are perfect for him to he gets very excited when he sees that the money target starts beeping. First outing to the beach he found over $1.00 in change and was super excited. The included backpack is great to hold everything. For an inexpensive kids metal detector this is a great buy for anyone looking to have some fun searching for treasures.

I have been thinking I needed to try out a metal detector on my property. I recently found out that my property has a lot of history associated with it. Maps indicate it was at part of an Native American village and in the civil war a battle line was nearby. then later in the roaring twenties it was either the first or last hole of a country club golf course. So my yard has a lot of potential for some interesting finds and look forward to some discoveries.
The handle has indicators that tell you if it might be a nail type metal, jewelry or coin find.
I am 5'4 and with the handles installed at the longest length option it works for me. Have not had the chance to test the accuracy other than going around the yard and getting hits. i did put it near some screws on the deck and it showed it was a nail type metal.
