When I connect the cable to the controller, does it light up? or does it have to be connected directly to the playstation?

Unfortunately, just a controller is not enough. There is an additional USB port for the light

Can I connect the headset to the xbox one controller to make it work?

Yes, as long as your Xbox One controller has a 3.5mm connector. Otherwise you need an adapter.
