K&F Concept Nano-Xcel White Mist Diffusion Filter, White Pro Mist 1/4" Ultra-Thin HD Macro Filter with 28-Layer Nano Coating for Portrait/Vlog Softening.
This is a SLIM (ultra-thin) format filter with an 82mm thread size for filter holders (normally used in wide-angle to medium telephoto zoom lenses with high brightness, or in full-frame telephoto lenses with a large first lens block). It is made with an aluminum alloy or similar chassis in a matte black finish, with a pronounced wavy groove pattern on two opposing areas of the edge to facilitate tightening and loosening, and with a multi-layer glass filter with an outer NANO-X coating for rain protection, so that the drops are repelled from the glass on the outer area. This particular filter is called "white diffusion," which softens facial contours in portraits with a slight halo effect and a minor loss of contrast and edge definition, resulting in what are known as "soft images." From what I've tested, this effect doesn't work very well on objects with low contrast definition, and with people, its effectiveness depends heavily on the amount of ambient light and how it falls on the subject. Personally, I prefer this subtle effect, which is also controllable with lighting adjustments, as a stronger effect of this kind ultimately feels more like a lack of image quality than a desired effect.
The effect results in a slight loss of definition, a softening of contours and contrast (resulting in "softer" images). The effects are noticeable in subsequent photos taken with the filter. This effect also conceals blemishes, fine wrinkles, or skin imperfections when used for close-up portraits. My rating for this filter, considering its features, the quality of its materials, and the original K&F protective packaging, and its price, which I find high compared to other similar filter models from the same brand, is:
