I ordered this filter, which is 77mm in size, and I use step-up rings to fit my various lenses. This 1/8 Black Diffusion filter has 18 multi-layer coatings. I use the filter for talking head videos and portrait photography. The effect is pleasing without appearing unnatural and provides a slight softening effect. There's a quality lens cap with a lanyard. The filter works perfectly and gives me the desired look for my images. I usually attach lanyards to the base of the lens rather than at the end; for that reason, I would prefer a longer lanyard.

These filters, both the 1/8 and the 1/4, are really good value. They blur light sources and soften skin and they don’t seem to add any noticeable color shift. They are aluminum, so they can and will bind up. Wish they were brass but you can’t have everything. They are well made and they work like they should. I’m keeping mine in my filter pouch for those moments that need something like these.
Good filter, good value. Aluminum ring can stick. Good filter, good value. Aluminum ring can stick.

As others have mentioned, this filter is very subtle in most circumstances... which is exactly what it should be at 1/8th strength. If you want to clearly see what the Black Mist 1/4 Filter is doing, put a light source (like a candle or LED) directly in the frame and you'll see an increased glow and gentle fall-off. This filter is designed specifically for that type of highlight; stronger versions will soften wrinkles and take the digital edge off the image. Concept's Black Diffusion filter retains all the sharpness of the image without shifting the color, which is exactly what you want. Highlight bloom-- and softer images, if that's what you're looking for-- can be accomplished in post easily enough, but there is an elegance to doing it in camera. This filter is extremely well-priced, and well made. It's thin, with a textured rim in order to grip it easily, and threads on and off with ease. The promotional images in this listing are entirely fake (so perhaps I should remove a star for that); the image will look nothing like these dreamy, soft pictures, but it can enhance the cinematic quality in the right scene.

This lens filter introduces mild diffusion which slightly softens the image making for less harsh shadows. I think many could argue that the effect is too mild. I was unable to capture images that would make for a compelling direct comparison. I'm a self-tape amateur, so maybe I just am not at the level where I can get the most out of this filter with my camera. That said, quality construction that fits my Sigma lens perfectly, screwing on tight. The accompanying lens cap snaps on and the packaging is a suitable case.

I have been consistently happy with K&F Black Mist 1/4 Filter. They are a great way to get different shots that won't break your bank. The filter is good quality. Fit my lens with no issues. Easy to put on and take off. Comes with a case for it to help protect it and it fits nicely in my carry case for my cameras.

This is a fairly neutral or low-impact diffuser which helps to "blend" your camera image. It helps to reduce textures in the final image, so it's good for portraits where you might want to soften wrinkles in a person's face. Or, it can add slight blurring effect to landscapes.

It fits fine with the thread on my lens, and there's a variety of sizes to choose from. It affects the exposure slightly (as it's a darkening effect slightly), but with many cameras these days, there's automatic ways to compensate for this. It's easy to use.

I'm happy with this product.

use it on my viltrox 23mm f1.4 lens, and it was great for that cinematic, diffusion effect. spun right on and works as expected.

I picked this up because I'm starting a Youtube channel and will be filming myself, unfortunately. I wanted a mist filter to smooth some of the lines on my face and to give some bloom to the LED lights behind me. At 1/8 strength, this is a very subtle effect; I'm trying to decide if it's too subtle for my taste. At this strength I see little-to-no difference when it comes to softening harsh lines on my face; however, this does work nicely to provide some attractive bloom with bright light sources. In my opinion, the promotional images here on Amazon greatly exaggerate the strength of this filter. I would imagine a 1/4 filter would give you images like the ones presented here. The filter comes with a large plastic case, a pointless wrist strap, and a lens cap. This pinch-style lens cap works very nicely -- frankly I like it better than Sony's own lens caps. The filter is well machined, and it screws on and off of my lenses perfectly. There is knurling on some of the edge to help spin the filter on and off -- which is a very useful feature for filters. The filter doesn't appear to have any color cast, but I haven't tested it with a color chart. If you want a subtle ethereal look to your images without making the images look too processed, this filter will work very well for you. If you want images that have a bold, misty look, you'll likely want a stronger option -- like the 1/4 filter.
