A High Quality Filter For the Solar Eclipse and Solar Photography
I ordered this “K&F Concept 62mm ND1000000,” Filter after a substantial amount of research, specifically for photographing the upcoming Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024. As a ND100000 it provides for a 16.6-stop light reduction and is “mostly used for solar photography and long exposures, such as solar eclipses.”

The filter itself is packed in a branded circular plastic case. K&F uses the same size case for many different sized filters relying on internal raised ridges to prevent the filter from slipping inside the closed container. My personal feeling is that this makes easy differentiation between sizes and storage more difficult than it should be though I appreciate the hardness of the plastic used for its protective quality. Delivered with the filter were two Microfiber Cleaning Cloths,

The filter is made from lightweight aluminum with matte black coating. The screw threads are well cut and the filter screws on and off easily. Comparing the filter to other K&F Concept filters I own I am confident that when the eclipse occurs it will perform as well as the others I have and I am looking forward to using it on April 8 to phtograph the eclipse. I consider this filter to be a strong 4 star filter and easily and securely recommend it to others for its photographic quality.

My Rating Scale:

1 star. This is the absolute lowest I can go and is a definite recommendation against being purchased.
2 stars. Less than average - having issues that I try to delineate in my review. I personally would not pay for this item.
3 stars. Average - neither great nor terrible. It will do the job it is supposed to do but without any obvious good or bad issues.I might or might not buy this item depending on the severity of my need or want.
4 stars. While the product is better than average it is not an excellent product. I would probably buy this product.
5 stars. Enough above average that it exceeds my expectations of how the product would and should perform. A product getting this rating is highly recommended.

Just the thing for taking pictures of eclipses...
I didn't know that 20 stop ND filters existed until I looked this up. This material feels so dense that it's hard to believe that it's transmitting any light at all. I'm impressed with what materials scientists are able to accomplish these days... creating something this dark in a way this accurate. I can't begin to understand the underlaying techniques involved. I obviously picked this up to photograph the eclipse, which is probably why you're looking it up as well. I took this outside, put it on 200mm lens, pointed the camera at the sun (which runs counter to every instinct), and fired away. It works. It really works. I did discover that a 200mm lens on APS-C creates a less than compelling view of the sun, so I'm looking for something longer now.

Good value filter - 20 Stops might be a bit too dark.
Bought this for the upcoming solar eclipse. This filter came in a nice protective case and the overall quality of the filter is great. No problem with threading it onto a 70-200 Canon 2.8 lens and the cover snaps right on.
Now this is a really dark filter. In fact unless you have a full on view of the sun without any obstructions you won’t be able to get a bright photo unless you are using a higher than 100 iso, low shutter speeds, or high aperture rates. Ideally you want to shoot F5 or F8 at 100 iso and 1/100+ shutter speeds but it’s quite dark at that setting. I did end up buying the cheaper 16.6 ND but it hasn’t come in yet. I would say that’s the better filter to go to so you can use higher shutter speeds or lower isos. Attached is an unedited photo along with a slightly edited version. This was on a clear day at high noon. With a little editing it was great but it’s still a bit darker than I wanted. If you can, get the 16.6 nd instead.
Good value filter - 20 Stops might be a bit too dark. Good value filter - 20 Stops might be a bit too dark.

Filter for partial eclipse a not totality.
I bought for the eclipse. And having done lots of research, and the reading reviews… I think people will try to take pics of the total eclipse with filter on. This filter is meant for sun. So when the moon covers completely, you take the filter off. Otherwise it will be too dark. You need this filter for the phase up to and after the totality - for all partial portions.

Know what you are doing
I got this solely to be able to take pictures of the sun, and the extremely rare instances my 10 stop doesnt apply. It is dark enough for both. Some reviewers are claiming it is too dark and that they are having to crank ISO up. Look at their settings and you can see that they have no idea what they are doing or talking about. F11-ISO 2500, 1/360 sec? Turn your ISO down, slow shutter down, use a tripod and image stability and you will get a "normal" picture. There is no reason to turn your ISO up, that is just dumb. ISO is compensatory for lack of light to increase shutter speed to a hand holdable level, or to compensate in scenes where movement, timing and lack of available light are an issue. It is not for compensating for lack of light while using a filter to block out what you then try to compensate for. The filter does exactly what it is supposed to do, block light. You want to compensate for blocked or lack of light, slow shutter speed down...THEN you wont have a grainy picture. The only quirk i have about the filter itself is that there are no "markings" on the side indicating what f-stop rating the filter is, just Nano-x marking. Other than that, it is exactly what it is supposed to be, a solar filter...

Great lens filter, however…
The darkness was too much (20 stops) and prohibited my camera from using optimal settings. I had to use the lowest f stop and a higher iso and shutter speed to obtain a good solar picture then desired. The lens filter was otherwise great.
