Just what I wanted...!
I bought this adapter to mount my dad's old AI lenses to my Nikon 1 J5. I set the camera to Manual as suggested and the whole setup works flawlessly. The camera meters properly. Shutter speed, ISO and exposure adjustments may still be changed freely on the camera. Aperture and focus are of course adjusted manually on the lens. The build of the adapter is very sturdy, and all metal as advertised. I'm very happy with my purchase, and the price was excellent! I works correctly with my dad's old Soligor 2X teleconverter and my Nikon 1 mount extension tubes. I could not be more pleased with this little (but hefty) piece of hardware.

To have more fun, one shall use a manual focus and manual aperture lens with it.
"The darkest picture":
I used Holga HL-N 60mm f/8 standard lens with it on my V1. The resultant pictures are so dark even set ISO=HI and a pretty slow shutter speed (1/15).
"The brightest picture" (Please pardon the blurry picture):
I used Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM FLD for test. The adaptor works fine when I used a trick to keep the aperture fully opened (ISO=200, exposure time=1/15).
"The reference picture":
Under the same condition (ISO=200, exposure time=1/15), taken by NIKON 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 (F4.5).
In addition, HiShop staff really value your comments.

The quality
Solid and resistant, it's inside with my Sony Alpha and I'm oblivious to the inside of the M42 without a problem

Excellent
This is a well made bit of kit. However whilst it fitted my Nikon J1 5 and my Tamaron lense I was not able to get a decent picture. I suspect if it had been a Nikon lense all would have been well. Alas it had to go back.

Sturdy adapter
Was recommended this by a photographer friend and can agree, it's the best adapter ! Not at all wobbley. Great way to get more use out of some of the excellent lenses, that can be found quite inexpensively these days, on a modern camera.

Good evening,
Yes the adaptor wil work very well.
You have to set the camera manually to shoot. Please note the camera must first be set to manual with the original lens attached,it's impossible to access the shooting menu without this lens.
Exposure will be trial and error but I think you will find the results worthwhile especially I mono,

Nope, it’s to adapt to the smaller Nikon 1 (CX) mount of the 1 series camera, not the F mount (your D3100) on crop and full frame Nikon’s.

You can attach any Nikon F mount lens to it but there is no electrical contact so an AF-S lens will be manual focus only. Also there will be no metering so exposure will be trial and error.
The aperture will also be stuck to its smallest setting, likely f/22 so the screen will be dark. If you have a "D" lens with an aperture ring then you can set it at it's widest setting to focus and then stop down if necessary. Similarly boosting the ISO to aid focus may work.
I have a 90mm macro lens with an aperture ring and I set it to f/2.8 to focus and then rotate the ring back to my desired aperture if necessary.
One workaround to help with the aperture would be to use either tape to hold open the aperture before mounting the lens or blue tack.
Even with all the added problems to use an F mount lens with this it is still cheap and kind of fun.
